Element 97 by Golden-Trio Element 97 by Golden-Trio
Sketch, ink and colour done by ~Jenovas-Fifth

Okay.
So.
Everybody go and Google "Element 97," and you'll understand the entire root of this joke. I don't really think anything more needs to be said, except that if I lived in 1000 AD and some kid was yelling at me about glowing purple stuff in a jar, I'd hightail it, too.

Gobber SHOULD be terrified. According to wikipedia, when a body comes in contact with Berkelium, .035% of all conatmination goes straight to the testicles XD

anyone who still doesn't get it, berkelium when it decays(which is really damn fast) gives off ALOT of radiation. And by howmuch there is to this day, THATS A F***ING LOT.

-Bursts out laughing- Good grief, a scientific joke! XD And to think people would ramble on about how "impossible" it is... At least from what I remember. If only they added a scene like this into the movie! ...Sadly, that defies the chronological setting of the culture, but I'm glad this comic brought that possibility to life. :)

Being TOTAL SCIENCE NERDS here, we don't believe in the impossibility of a science joke. There's just so much material to work with!
Thanks so much for the kind words. :) But yeah, I think they've already bent the rules of history enough with the movie. I mean, come on. Hiccup had a PENCIL, that technologically advanced little brat. :B

Pte he he, true, true. XD And you're welcome. :)

Ah man, I certainly wish I possessed a good measure of intellect on the scientific field. I just collect random bits and pieces here and there, sometimes on paleontological and geographical knowledge, other times on biological modern day specimen, but learning about chemicals in particular sounds intriguing. I mean, it seems like there are probably plenty out there with the potential use of a pun, and this comic in particular simply nails it! XD "BERKelium." Combining that with that one convenient line in the film, and it's like this part of the movie was MADE for that moment! -Bursts out laughing again- I have to say, you have a very open mind and an eye for detail to have connected those two. :)

Thanks again. <3 Even though I love science, I'm an arts and languages person at heart, so after highschool the only science I'll be learning is through independent study. But really, that's not so bad at all - learning doesn't stop after school ends, after all. We oughta be learning all our lives, so independent study is a fine idea to keep the science knowledge up to date without needing a degree in it.

True... And for some reason, I find more benefit from independent learning. XD Mostly because it's interesting enough to pay attention to.

Certainly  First and foremost element 97 is called Berkelium.
And then of course it's highly unstable and works hand in hand with nuclear reactors
Hope that clears things up :)

For Science!

I like how you've made Gobber's face so sad. He can't quiiiite manage the "puppy face" being a giant scary looking viking, but he's trying.

Hiccup's side profile is excellent--I like the tiny eyebrow twitch in the last panel. Nice detailing on the freckles.

Oh wow, thanks so much! It's really lovely getting a nice, detailed comment like this every now and again. :)

Gobber's trying his darnedest to get OUT of there, I think, so if the Viking equivalent of a puppy face is needed to do that, so be it. XD And I love HTTYD art because of all the freckles - I loooove drawing in freckles.

Well Berkelium itself is a synthetic element - I forgot exactly when it was made but it was named for the place they made it, which made me giggle. There's a comment somewhere here that actually explains what the real-life Berkelium would do to you if you got exposed to it for too long, which I thought was cool.
Thanks for the comment!
